Hey, Dweebs. Every Friday look forward to your weekly Nerd Alert. It's a list of the top things in the five food groups of life (Books, TV, Movies, Music, Awesome) that you need to get familiar with before the new week starts... because no one wants to be friends with someone who doesn't know what's up. Read on for all the tips you KNOW you need for that hipster party you're attending this weekend...
Books:
Yeah I know, reading is sooo lame, and it doesn't help that my book suggestion is 1000+ pages but it really is a good read. Stephen King's Under The Dome is like Biodome on crack, and there's no Pauly Shore (shambles?). No spoilers here, but don't get too attached to it's many characters, SK loves to get you invested in characters and then rip your heart out, so be warned. If you can forgive the lame-ish answer to who put the dome up, you're really in for a good read.
TV:
So many choices here, but I'll recommend the little-show-that-could. Be warned, it's kinda gay. No... literally. It's on LOGO and it's called 1 Girl 5 Gays, (or 1G5G for those in the know). It's nothing brilliant, and contrary to it's name it's not a porn. It's basically 5 gay dudes (this one's my fave...so Canadian) and an Indo chick sitting around and answering 20 questions about love and sex. Sounds lame I know, but really it's like sitting around drunk and chatting with your friends (who all just happen to be gay...and you're a girl). It's on 5 nights a week at 11pm for the summer, so you have no excuse not to check it out at least once... especially if you wanna be cooler than you know you are.
Movies:
I don't really watch movies anymore since I work in TV, (admitted TV snob), and I do have a weekly feature on shitty movies already... So I'll just do the noble thing and recommend this year's sure fired best picture Oscar winner.
Music:
GET. THIS. NOW!! "The Kills: Blood Pressure" is really good yallz. It's got mad bass and plenty of badass to go around. Give it a listen and you won't be pissed. Bonus fact: My fave track from the album is used in this Season 4 True Blood trailer (new season next Sunday at 9pm on HBO). See...synergy.
Awesome:
This category is pretty much "etc" or "weird shit", so it should come as no surprise that this week's awesome thing that you must know of/have is...Tater Mitts! A former boo of mine introduced me to them as his cat's name was Tatermitts (ugh, former love shambles). But at the end of the day, what's better than fashions that also help you peel your carbs just by rubbing your hands together? Well... maybe this guy, but you get my drift.
